Ragdoll
Ragdollen har sitt
ursprung i Riverside, California på 1960 talet och grundades av
Anne Baker. Rasens stammoder var en vit hona av angoratyp som hette
Josephine och ägdes av Anne Bakers granne, Mrs Pennel. Anne Baker
brukade låna en hane av Mrs Pennel, Blackie, som var Josephines son,
att para sina honor med. Hos Mrs Pennel fick Anne Baker se en katt,
Daddy Warbucks, som hon blev mycket förtjust i. Han var en bror till
Blacke och alltså en son till Josephine. Daddy Warbucks såg ut som en
birma, förutom att han hade en vit bläs över nosen, vit svanstipp och
höga, vita sockor. Anne Baker bestämde sig för att avla fram katter som
Daddy Warbucks, och parade tillbaka honom på Josephine. Det resulterade
i en hona vid namn Fugianna. Från henne härstammar linjen som kallas
"lightside". Josephine parades också med en brun burma och
från den kombinationen härstammar "darkside".
Anne Baker började sälja
katter som hon kallade Ragdoll, men hon förbjöd sina köpare att avla
på katterna om man inte hade en "licens" som Anne Baker
själv utfärdade och enligt hennes strikta regler. Denny Dayton,
Blossom Time cattery, hade inte samma åsikter om avel som Anne Baker
och bröt sig u och började efter en hård tvist i domstol och media
avla som man gör med andra kattraser, varpå Ragdollen började sprida
sig över världen. Denny Daytaon började skriva på det stora
stamträdet, dit alla Ragdolls som är "äkta" kan
härstammas. Han startade också Ragdoll fFanciers Club Interational som
arbtade för att få rasen godkänd inom de amerikanska
kattsportsförbunden.
Numera är Ragdollen
godkänd inom alla förbunden och det sista, största förbundet CFA,
godkände rasen 1993.
